So I FINALLY got an amp that should be able to beat the sh1t out of my 2 HCCA 10.4's. It's a Memphis MCD-4k.

I have a box built already using 1" mdf measuring: 36" wide, 16" tall, and 17" deep, with a port width of 2.875" and 20" long. Subs and port face the same direction.

This will be in my trunk. And I'm not much of a rap guy, ALTHOUGH I do like me some NICE LOWS. That's what I want; LOW, LOUD and CLEAN.

I'd like to make my box 36" wide, 16" tall, and 16" deep (instead of 17" deep). It's a bitch gettin' it in my trunk at 17" deep.

Another thing, too. Right now I have my subs facing the windshield. I know MOST peeps face theirs towards the trunk and I've done that with my subs in the past that weren't as big as these HCCA'S.

Would simply turning them around make a HUGE difference? My point is that I'm NOT that impressed with how it sounds currently. I just ordered a 225a h.o alt. so my voltage should me more sufficient.

Thoughts/ideas?

Thanks guys.

Zak

Have you modified the amp to make more power or asked anyone about doing it?

Just giving you a hard time.

Josh can chime in.
And honestly, in a trunk car with the little experience I've had, drivers facing to the rear has always been better. Much better.

Lengthening wavelength helps a lot

The only time I would ever suggest facing forward in a trunk car is for sound quality IMO. You never really know until you tests, but 9/10 time facing the rear, with the enclosure 3-5" off the trunk seems to be much louder then anything else.

I'm not familiar with the HCCA's so I can't really suggest to much enclosure wise.

LOL at the power mod comment. Must have seen my post on CACO with the busters chiming in. Some people's children, I tell ya. I ask a few simple questions and... POOF.

I'll have to flip the box around and see how that works. Still, I'm really not that impressed. It gets low and so there's only a few songs that I like to listen to. Everything else sounds like shit.

Got me a 225a h.o. alty showing up in a matter of days and so I'm hoping that my voltage will not drop the way its been.

From the measurements you posted, I get about 3.5-3.6cuft after displacements, tuned to about 33-34hz.

When I put this into winisd, I see a giant peak in response near tuning, and then a steep taper on either side where efficiency is lost. I can see what I think you are talking about.

To me, it sounds like you need a smaller enclosure tuned a smidgen higher.

Here's what 2 cubes at 35-36 looks like. Flatter response down to 35hz, with increased efficiency down to 40hz. Still plays down to 30 just fine.

Winisd FTL. Here's a more accurate picture of that response.

A 10dB difference between 33hz-50hz.

150+ dB Daily
looks like a pretty good peak at 35ish

Thanks fellas for all your feedback. I turned my box around so that it faces the trunk and it sounds a ^hit ton better. I'm pleased with my HCCA 10's.
